How Far We've Come

Well, we have officially had our last class in the Foster/Adoptive Parent Training! I have been sick for about a week, so I probably haven’t been as excited about it as I would have been otherwise.

We’ve gotten our animals vaccinated. We’ve both had our yearly physicals (yuck). We’ve gone through 7 weeks of training and discussed things that you never would’ve thought pertained to foster care. We’ve opened our home to inspections and critiques, with many more to come. We’ve installed more smoke detectors, installed baby-proofing latches, and gotten first aid kits for our cars. We’ve asked for references, and those who agreed have very promptly returned their paperwork, and for that, we are truly grateful.

ALL we have left to do is a floor plan of our house, which I have done on the computer. I just need to get measurements added to it. Wednesday, October 8th, we have a final ‘walk through’ before our application is submitted to the State. Once our application is submitted, we could possibly have a temporary license within a couple of weeks. We can have a child placed in our home on a temporary license. From what I understand, the only thing we need to make it a ‘regular’ license is a walk-through inspection of our home by the Kansas Department of Health & Environment.

I just wanted to do a quick update to let everyone know where we were at, and to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support.

P.S. I’m trying to get Bob to do an entry on here too, but he’s being rather reluctant. :P
